On August 24, 2018, Kashmir-based non-governmental organization (NGO) Athrout sent their volunteers to Kerala.
Reports said that the team will purchase the food and other items such as flour, hygiene kits, medicines, drinking water from Bangalore market, and will distribute in mainly flood-hit areas around Karnataka-Kerala borders. A team of doctors from the NGO will also treat the patients in the area.

The NGO has received donations amounting to Rs one lakh for Kerala. Other than that, they reportedly resolved to spend at around three lakh rupees for the relief work.

Chairman of Athrout, Bashir Nadvi, told Newsclick “In collaboration with the people in Bangalore, who contacted us when the floods hit Kashmir and helped us, we managed to build a camp in Bangalore. They stood with us when we were in worst situation. It is now our time to stand with the people of Kerala.”

For the flood victims, employees of Jammu and Kashmir Bank have donated around Rs 11 crore. The Chairman of the bank, Parvaiz Ahmad, shall be contributing his salary of two months, while the rest of the staff will be donating their six days’ salary.
People from different parts of the Kashmir went from door to door to collect the relief in the form of clothes, food, money and other items.

Different civil societies, based out of Kashmir, asked for donations on the occasion of Eid Ul Adha people in Eid Gah (where Eid prayers are offered). People have showed solidarity with the victims by donating the money for Kerala.

One of the donors, Aqib Ali, told Newsclick that by donating a few rupees or a few clothes can play important role in helping people of Kerala. “Kashmir also faced the disastrous flood and people from different part helped and we are doing the same,” he said.

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah tweeted: “I will be donating my salary for this month to the relief efforts in #Kerala,” He also wrote, “I also appeal to my colleagues in @JKNC_ & others in J&K to remember what we went through in 2014 & do their own bit, however small, to help. From “Heaven on earth” to “God’s own country.”

Kerala floods have killed more than 350 people, and have left thousands of people homeless.
