“I Don’t Feel Safe Here” – Bezwada Wilson
Bezwada Wilson spoke at Admin block, a.k.a freedom square, in JNU. He talked about the caste discrimination prevalent in University spaces. Rohith Vemula’s mother, Radhika Vemula, who once encouraged her son to study, now doesn’t want her younger son to enroll in any University. Rohith’s brother, Raja, a topper had to quit his education and now works as an auto driver. It’s highly shameful for a country which takes pride in being diverse, to lose brilliant minds to caste oppression. The government has proven itself to be indifferent and inefficient to bring justice to this family. To add insult to injury, Radhika Vemula was refused entry into the University of Hyderabad.
Bezwada discusses the condition of Dalits in this country. He talks about how he feels unsafe because of his identity. He says the government is increasingly becoming more cruel and criminal in its actions.
It’s high time that people recognise and realize the ugly reality of this country and its government.
