Withdraw Draconian Provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita: All India Road Transport Workers' Federation

In a statement, All India Road Transport Workers’ Federation (AIRTWF) has asked the Central government to withdraw the 'draconian' provisos 106 (1) (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita through an amendment in the ongoing Budget session of the Parliament.

While acknowledging Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement during the inauguration of the "Bharat Mobility Summit" on February 02, AIRTWF noted that the present NDA government relaxed the mandatory provision of engaging two drivers on national permit vehicles. 

The relaxation allowed operations with one driver, creating unlimited working hours, stress and strain on the drivers. The federation warned that the change may lead to more accidents, and the government must restore the provision of having two drivers.

"There are innumerable violations in the construction of National Highways causing accidents. AIRTWF time and again represented the Government to rectify the defects and to blacklist the contractors for violations. Ironically, till date, nothing has happened. Brushing aside all these failures, punishing the drivers has become the order of the day."

In his speech, PM Modi said that the government would provide around 1,000 restrooms on the national highways for drivers. AIRTWF noted that it has been a pending demand of the federation, and the government must allocate funds in the current Budget for the same.
