The crisis in Venezuela has escalated since March 2017 with a wave of pro and anti-Government rallies across the country. His Excellency Augusto Montiel, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to India speaks with Newsclick, asserting that the western media continues to paint a biased picture of what is happening in his country. Ambassador Montiel says that there is a concerted attempt through violent protests supported by external forces to oust the democratically elected Government of President Nicolas Maduro. In order to resolve the political impasse, President Maduro has called for the constitution of a constituent assembly that will be responsible for re-drafting the current constitution.
