Sunil Chhetri: An Indian Football Story (420 Grams Season 1, Ep. 1)
As Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri's 150th game for Indian Super League (ISL) side Bengaluru FC coincided with the launch of our new season, we decided to put out this mega episode charting his evolution in the sport and beyond. Over the course of his career, which began in New Delhi in the early 2000s, Chhetri has played with multiple generations of footballers in a constantly changing ecosystem in India. In this video, featuring some of the biggest names in Indian football. we recap Chhetri's journey through the eyes of people who have been closely connected with him -- teammates, friends, family and journalists. We spoke to senior players Bhaichung Bhutia and Renedy Singh, contemporaries such as Mehrajuddin Wadoo, current teammates Eric Paartalu and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, and several others including Chhetri's father, Kharga Chhetri. In many ways this is the story of Indian football over the past two decades, told in the form of personal anecdotes that paint a vivid picture of the poster child for the sport in this country.
