Sahitya Akademi Responds, Condemns Threats to Writers

Sahitya Akademi has responded to the threats to writers such as Damodar Mauzo and S Hareesh, after the Indian Writers’ Forum sent a letter signed by 26 writers, urging the Akademi to take action.

Sahitya Akademi has responded to the threats to writers such as Damodar Mauzo and S Hareesh, after the Indian Writers’ Forum sent a letter signed by 26 writers, urging the Akademi to take action. In an email sent to the Indian Writers’ Forum, the Secretary of the Sahitya Akademi, K Srinivasarao said, “The Akademi has always been for the cause of writers’ community and has utmost respect for the thinkers, scholars, writers and poets. Since inception, Sahitya Akademi has been the home of writers and we condemn all attacks on writers in unequivocal terms.”

In a Press Release issued on 1 August, Chandrashekhar Kambar, the President of the Sahitya Akademi, has said, “It is with great pain that we received the news of threats to Sri Damodar Mauzo ji, Sahitya Akademi award winner and distinguished Konkani writer and scholar, and also other writers in different regions.”
