Misinterpreting Nuclear Liability Laws
According to the nuclear liability laws passed by India in 2010, compensation for liability in the event of any nuclear accident is to be borne by the foreign supplier. However, recent reports in newspapers indicate that the Indian government in its anxiety to appease the United States is willing to work against these provisions, specially against the Clause 17 of “The Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act.” Newsclick discusses this issue with Prabir Purkayastha from the Delhi Science Forum.
