'Love Jihad' Law: Violation of Constitutional Values
Recently, two BJP-ruled states - Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh - have brought in laws against so-called 'Love Jihad'. Many BJP-ruled states like Karnataka and Haryana are also talking about bringing in such laws. When the Constitution gives us religious and personal freedom, so is this law not a violation of its values? Ironically, at a time when we needed to remove problematic provisions of the Special Marriage Act, which involves sharing of personal information, the law on Love Jihad is being brought in. Let us understand how these laws are against the values of the Constitution.
