Kisan Sansad Concluded: The Historic Movement that Brought Together Flags of all Colors
Ashok Dhawale, President of AIKS, gives a conclusion of the Kisan Mukti Sansad to Newsclick. 184 farmer groups united under All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee. Lakhs of farmers from every corner of the country came to Parliament Street to fight for their fundamental rights that is being denied to them at every step.
There were a huge number of women farmer at the demonstration. Ashok Dhawale told how different colored flags representing different ideologies led to the movement being an unprecedented success. On the first day of the Farmers Parliament, Mahila Kisan Sansad had a two hour session where it was discussed that women farmers who contribute more than half the share in agriculture, should get justice. Many of the widows gave their accounts on what lead to their husband’s suicide.
The main two Bills - loan waivers for farmers and remunerative prices for agricultural produce- were moved by Hannan Mollah, General secretary, AIKS and Raju Shetty, of the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghtana, respectively. Ashok Dhawale tells Newsclick about the decisions taken at the Sansad. He further talks in detail about further plans to take the historic farmer struggle ahead.
