DMK Govt Suspends Bill Under Pressure From Workers
The MK Stalin-led DMK government in Tamil Nadu passed the Factories (Tamil Nadu Amendment) Bill 2023 in the state Assembly on April 21. The bill amends the existing Factories Act, 1948. The ruling party passed the bill amid protest by the opposition and even the ruling allies. Left parties and trade unions had started to protest the very next day at various places in the state. On April 24, in the context of discussion with trade union leaders, the Chief Minister's Office tweeted that the government is putting the bill on hold.
