Article 35A guarantees unique identity and safeguards the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. It allows the Jammu & Kashmir legislature to define a Permanent Resident of the state and confers some special rights on them, including the acquisition of property, jobs in public sector, scholarships, etc. Recently, the Supreme Court has decided to review the validity of Article 35-A following a writ petition being filed in court to challenge it. Protests have broken out in Kashmir, and people of Kashmir have pledged to put on a tough fight against the scraping of this bill.
