Why are Indians Hungry Despite Overflowing Granaries?
The Global Hunger Index ranked India 101 in a list of 116 countries. The report mentions that the state of hunger in India is "serious", a country still reeling from the horrors of the COVID-19 pandemic. In an official response, the central government rubbished the report and said that it doesn't paint a fair picture of hunger in the country. The state of hunger in India is pernicious despite FCI granaries overflowing with surplus grains. Newsclick spoke with Right to Food Campaign activist Dipa Sinha to find out if people in India are suffering from hunger.
