Rohtak University Faculty Urges Governor’s Intervention to Curb ‘Irregularities’

Teachers of Pt Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (SUPVA), Rohtak, have accused its administration of gross irregularities, mismanagement, backdoor appointments, and harassment.
The teachers, protesting for more than 80 days over the non-implementation of the revised UGC pay scales, have urged Haryana governor and SUPVA vice-chancellor Bandaru Dattatreya to intervene, The Tribune reported.
“It is with a heavy heart that we express our sincere belief that the university is heading towards a state of disaster. We feel compelled to voice our concerns in the hope that corrective measures will be taken to rectify the situation,” a letter signed by 17 regular faculty members read.
The teachers lamented the “hostile working environment, atmosphere of fear, insecurity, and lack of motivation among the faculty, staff members and students”.
The teachers alleged gross irregularities in selecting faculty members and other officials and appointments of persons above 65 years violating state government norms.
“An accused in a case of sexual harassment is a member of the committee framing the policy for sexual harassment in the university,” the letter read.
“Favouritism, nepotism, casteism and corruption prevail in the university,” the teachers alleged.
Earlier too, the faculty had urged Dattatreya to intervene and ensure that they are paid as per the revised UGC pay scales
“We earnestly request your kind intervention to implement the UGC pay scales with the Seventh Central Pay Commission, increments and promotions in the UGC pay scales, which have been pending for more than a decade,” the teachers had urged in a letter.
PLC SUPVA Teachers Association president Indranil Ghosh had rued, “One month on, neither the university administration nor the state authorities have even bothered to know our concerns.”
Ghosh pointed out that despite the state government agreeing to implement the revised UGC pay scales last September, the university administration never implemented the fresh pay scales.
