In another incident of blatant mockery of law and order in Uttar Pradesh, a group of people mercilessly thrashed a 70-year-old retired sub-inspector (SI) in broad daylight in Shilakhana area under Shivkuti police station, Allahabad, on Monday morning.
Abdul Samad Khan was violently attacked by three men with sticks, and even as the former sub-inspector fell on the ground his assailants pounced on him. They continued till he stopped resisting, with no passersby coming forward to help. The whole incident was recorded on CCTV, footage of which has gone viral since. Khan was later taken to a nearby private hospital where he died during treatment.
The crime rate, including lynching and murder has been on constantly rising under the Adityanath government.
According to the police officials, an FIR has been registered against three assailants and seven others for murder. However, only one of the accused has been arrested so far.
Speaking with media persons, SP Brijesh Kumar Srivastava said, “According to the investigation so far, these people had some property dispute and had an argument before. The incident took place on Monday morning, when Khan was going on his bicycle and was attacked by Mohammad Yusuf, his brother Mohammad Sebu and relative Ibne. He was beaten badly with canes and was left on the streets. He was then taken to a nearby private hospital where he died in the evening."
Speaking with Newsclick, Allahabad's Phulpur MP Nagendra Singh Patel said, "This incident is heartbreaking. Two incidents from Allahabad made the headlines today. One beating a cop to death just close to the police station, and dacoits barging into the coaches of the Ganga-Kaveri Express near Panhai railway station. This shows how the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government is maintaining law and order in Uttar Pradesh."
When questioned on the recent claims of Chief Minister Adityanath that the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh has been the best the state has seen in the last 15 years, the Samajwadi Party (SP) lawmaker said, "We address BJP as the Jumla Party and they are proving us right. Whereas crime rates including lynching, murder in broad daylight have been on a rise since this government came to power, this shameless government is trying to claim just the opposite."
He went on to add, "Snatching chains from women, stealing of bikes, etc., are reportedly happening everyday but these are not considered crimes by this government as they are not making it to the national headline."
Newsclick had also approached the deceased’s family but due to fear of negative repercussions, they could not respond at the time and said they will contact once they are in a position to speak out.
