'Make Right to Healthcare a Justiciable Right'
Ahead of Assembly and Lok Sabha polls, public health activists from across the country have proposed policy actions for consideration by all political parties and candidates for ensuring healthcare for all.
Taking note of various negative policy trends in the health sector, the Jan Swasthya Abhiyan held a People's Health Assembly (PHA)in Raipur, Chhattisgarh last week.
The two-day gathering, which saw the participation of health experts and public health activists from across the country, released a People's Health Manifesto, calling upon all political parties to consider policy actions that uphold th right to healthcare for all.
The PHA also registered its strong opposition to the anti-people steps being taken by the BJP-led NDA government in the health sector, such as the recent national health budgets being reduced in real terms,
downgrading of public health services; launching of the ‘Ayushman Bharat’ scheme based on the discredited ‘insurance model’, among others.
Following is the text of the People’s Health Manifesto, 2018, adopted at the 3rd National Health Assembly held in Raipur (Chhattisgarh) on 22-23 September:
