JNU Faculty Accused of Sexual Harassment by 7 Girls

Seven female Students of School of Life Sciences (SLS), Jawaharlal Nehru University have filed an FIR for sexual harassment against Atul Johri, a faculty of SLS. Atul Johri has been a vocal supporter of the JNU administration.

An FIR was registered in Vasant Kunj Police Station against Atul Johri under sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC.

Another student who had gone missing from March 11th and later found at her relative’s place after her father filed an FIR, blamed Johri as the reason for her disappearance. She is a student of the integrated Mphil/ PhD programme from the School of Life Sciences.

In a mail to Professor Johri, she accused that she was leaving his so-called prestigious lab just because he is a characterless person and has no manners on how to talk to girls.

"Respected Sir, I know you have a misconception that you are the best guide in JNU or in the whole country and every student wants to do Ph.D under you. I also came thinking so, but then you proved me that the first impression is not always the last impression. Even uneducated people are more Manner full and Decent then you Mr AK Johri," she said in a mail written to Johri.

"I am leaving your so-called prestigious lab just because you are a characterless person and you do not have manners, how to talk to girls and you have a particular pattern by which you make every girl feel that she is worthless and you are a kind of Baba of life Sciences, so hard luck," she added.

Students from SLS protested against him in front of the dean’s office demanding Johri’s resignation.
