Empty Stadium
29’ Again. The stadium is empty. And you can hear every word the players and coaches are screaming on the broadcast. Its great matchday experience, if that's the kind of experience you like.

Chennaiyin FC beat ATK in the semifinal of the Hero Super Cup thanks to two goals in the second half of the match. CK Vineeth and in form Anirudh Thapa scored for Chennaiyin to seal their place in the final against FC Goa. Earlier, at the end of what can only be described as drab, lifeless 45 minutes of football, Chennaiyin FC and ATK were tied 0-0 at half time. Chennaiyin had all the possession in Bhubaneswar: five corners, 63% of the possession but no shots on target. ATK, meanwhile, had the solitary attempt on target in the first half. 29’ No offence, but this is a really drab game. Both sides finished near the bottom of the ISL table and they’re showing us why.
Sorry about that. Nodded off for a bit given the incredible intensity and passion that’s on offer this game. What did I miss?

32’ ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Vineeth shoots at goal from an angle he’d have been better crossing from.
35’ One goal may be enough this game says Anant Tyagi on the broadcast. Even half a goal may be good actually. This is like Carlsen vs Carruana. A draw is a win, is a draw, is a win. In games like this, for tournaments as inconsequential as this, perhaps rapid football is the answer. Two touches only.
37’ Jeje is the answer here. Really he is. Chennaiyin have been floating a lot of balls into the box, they;ve also had a lot of possession. They need a goal scorer. Jeje.
39’ Some good play from Chennaiyin, as Gregory Nelson floats a superb ball to the far post, where Anirudh Thapa is running in. Thapa controls it badly though. Chennaiyin have been found wanting in the final third.
If I wanted to watch a team pass the ball around laterally, I’d have waited for Barcelona later tonight. Doesn’t help that Arjun Pandit just texted, “zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz”. Lucky for him being a celebrity means you don’t have to live blog horror shows trying to pass off as football games.

40’ Another cross into the ATK box. Put out for a corner.
41’ And Herd gets the yellow. He brings down Lanzarotte, the previous altercation no doubt playing its part in his annoyance.
42’ Arjun Pandit has joined us.
43’ UPDATE: Erm. Arjun Pandit has fallen asleep.
There are many ways to spend a Wednesday evening. Some people use this day as an excuse to break bread and wine with friends. Us though, we like to live blog on Wednesdays. And this is the most exciting game of football on today. What did you say? Barcelona vs Manchester United? How will that be any different.
Okay maybe it will be. It has Messi.
45’ ATK’s jersey sponsors are CESC Limited. A real life Cesc (limited or not) would really spark this game to life.
Nothing to read here. Chennaiyin have had all the possession and have actually wanted to play football. They’ve had five corners, 63% of the possession but no shots on target. Obviously then, they have the square root of nothing to show for it. And ATK. Well they’re playing this game too. But not doing much. Although they’ve had the solitary attempt on target this half. This could go to extra times, penalties, and even then it may not end. Seriously. They’ll just cut the game when the Champions League starts.
46’ The second half is underway. And it has begun exactly how it was left off. Chennaiyin take the ball down the left channel and win themselves a corner.
47’ They do nothing with it.ATK clear, but Chennaiyin win possession back. They go down the left channel again. No luck.
48’ Based on these 48 minutes of this game, there is a significant gap between what Goa will bring to the final and these two teams. Goa should easily coast to the title. But that sentence has been said a million times in football, and proven wrong.
50’ Debjit is off his line and Mailson almost finds him out from 40 yards. He tips it over. Just. It goes out. Corner to Chennaiyin.
50’ And finally!! A GOAL!!! Anirudh Thapa does some brilliant work on he left flank, swerving, dribbling and getting away from the men marking him. It takes him an age to drop the cross in but when he does, its perfect. Vineeth rises and buried it. Chennaiyin lead 1-0
