India's gross domestic product (GDP) growth has witnessed a sharp and so far one of the worst contractions in the first quarter of the current financial year, which coincides with the first phase of the nationwide lockdown. According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation data, the GDP growth rate has declined by 23.9% in the quarter between April and June.
