Delhi Riot Victims: Alone In Crisis
Natasha Badhwar is an author and filmmaker involved with the Karwaan-e-Mohabbat campaign against hate crime for the last two years. With Karwaan, Badhwar has reached out to victims of the recent violence in Delhi. But the government at the Centre has not. The Delhi government started providing makeshift shelters for victims, but belatedly and far from adequate. Relief efforts have barely started and there's a long way to go. Hundreds are displaced from their homes and need to feel safe to return. Community ties need to be rebuilt from scratch. Healthcare, shelter, security, compensation, education for children, rebuilding documents: all of this needs active state support. Badhwar tells NewsClick that individuals and NGOs cannot do this job. Only governments can.
