45 Districts Report No Fresh Case in Last 14 Days; Co-morbidity in 83% Deaths
Union health ministry on Saturday confirmed that no new cases of novel coronavirus infection have been reported from 45 districts across 23 states in the country in last 14 days. This has come at a time when the virus continues to spread in other parts, crossing 14,000-mark as on Saturday evening till five.
The cumulative figure of the virus infection in the country currently stands at 14,792 which included 12,289 “active” cases in hospitals and another 2,014, who have been cured so far, according to Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The death toll due to COVID-19, disease caused by the novel coronavirus, has jumped to 488.
In its regular briefing on Saturday, Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry informed that out of all the COVID-19 deaths in the country 83 per cent of the cases had co-morbid conditions.
Confirming that the mortality rate due to COVID-19 in India is at 3.3 per cent, Aggarwal also provided an an age-wise breakup of the death figures, informing that 42.2 per cent of the deaths – majority – is of those who above the age of 75 years.
14.4 per cent of the deaths has been reported in the age group of 0-45 years. Age group 45-60 years constitutes for 10.3 per cent and 60-75 years for 33.1 per cent.
