In a letter to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat sought the intervention of the state government to ensure the compensation announced by the CM to the family of Junaid Khan.

Junaid Khan, a 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death by a communally motivated mob inside a train compartment in Haryana on June 22, 2017. Junaid and his brothers Hasim Moin and Shakir Moin had boarded the EMU train moving from Ghaziabad to Mathura after Eid shopping in Delhi on June 22.

The accused, along with around a dozen other persons, boarded the train at Okhla and ordered Junaid and his brothers to vacate their seats.  When they refused, the accused brutally beat up the three and stabbed them and dumped them at Asaoti railway station in Palwal district.

In the letter, Brinda recalled the incident saying “This is in connection with the brutal murder of Junaid son of Jalaladuddin, resident of Khatauli village, Faridabad, Haryana on June 22, 2017.You will recall he was stabbed to death by a communally motivated group.”

Even though the BJP-led Haryana government had announced a compensation for the family of the diseased, the family has not received the amount from the government.

“On June 29th, the papers carried your statement, as Chief Minister of Haryana, condemning the murder. You also declared a compensation of Rs. Ten lakhs. Two of his brothers were also injured, one of them seriously,” the letter added.

“He has been unable to do any work till now. Unfortunately no compensation whatsoever has been received by the family from the Government. The DC had given five lakh rupees from the Red Cross. On further enquiry the DC said he has not received any orders from the Chief Minister to give the compensation of ten lakh rupees,” the letter further read.

On the other hand, The Punjab and Haryana High Court stayed trial court proceedings in the case of Junaid Khan, today, on 5th December 2017.

A Division Bench comprising Justices Mahesh Grover and Raj Shekhar Attri issued notice of motion to the Haryana government and the Central Bureau of Investigation on the plea by Junaid's family for a stay on the trial and a CBI probe. The trial in the case was going on in a Faridabad court.

Junaid's father Jalaluddin challenged a November 27 order of a single judge of the High Court, who dismissed the plea for a CBI probe by saying there was no evidence to show that the Haryana Police probe was flawed. Jalaluddin had filed the petition on October 26.
