BCCI President Sourav Ganguly Suffers Heart Attack, Undergoes Angioplasty

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly suffered a “mild” heart attack and is undergoing “primary angioplasty” in Kolkata, his doctors confirmed. The condition of the former Indian cricket team skipper, 48, is stable, say reports.
Ganguly was rushed to the Woodlands Hospital after feeling uneasy while working out in the gym at his residence on Saturday.

“He had an acute myocardial infarction (MI) but is stable now. He is stable hemodynamically and has received loading doses of dual anti platelets and statin.” a doctor at Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata was quoted by the PTI. “Mr. Ganguly is undergoing primary angioplasty now. We are yet to decide on how many stent insertion is required for Mr. Ganguly.”
Ganguly will be kept under observation for a few days while the three-member panel of doctors who are responsible for his treatment will take a call on the future treatment or course of action.
Ganguly’s family members were quoted in reports as saying that Ganguly complained of dizziness after a workout session, and was rushed to the Woodlands Hospital at around 1 in the afternoon on Saturday. He underwent angioplasty a couple of hours later.
“He was diagnosed with three blocked coronary arteries after which the stent was inserted to remove the blockage,” Dr. Saroj Mondal, whose team performed the procedure, was quoted by Sportstar..

More stents could be needed and the decision on that will be taken later. Ganguly, apparently, had experienced similar dizziness a day before too. “Since he was immediately brought to the hospital that helped us in treating him,” Dr. Mondal added.
Earlier, in a statement, Dr. Rupali Basu, MD & CEO at the hospital, stated that Ganguly had “family history of IHD ØE Ischemic heart disease.”
“When he came to the hospital at 1pm, his... clinical parameters were within normal limits. His ECG showed hyper acute ST segment elevation in inferior leads and lateral leads. Echo showed mild inferior wall hypokynaesia with preserved overall left ventricular function. He is stable haemodynamically. He has received loading doses of dual anti platelets and statin,” Basu wrote.
