SC Dismisses PIL Seeking SIT Probe Into “Forcible Conversion” of Hindus at Mewat Nuh, Haryana
THE Supreme Court Monday dismissed public interest litigation seeking a probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the alleged forcible conversion of Hindu residents by the Muslim community in District Mewat Nuh Haryana.
I don’t think we can entertain this, based on newspaper reports, etc”, the Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, who led a bench comprising Justices AS Bopanna and Hrishikesh Roy, remarked while dismissing the plea.
The plea was filed by Lucknow-based lawyer Ranjana Agnihotri. The petition also sought direction to the Central Government to deploy paramilitary forces in District Nuh Mewat to protect the life and liberty of citizens.
The petitioner alleged that a number of Hindus had been forcibly converted to Islam and a number of Hindu women and minor girls had been abducted and raped.
Senior advocate Vikash Singh appeared for the petitioner.
