JNU Violence: ISI Faculty, Students Express Solidarity, Condemn Attacks on Academic Institutions
Following the violence unleashed in the premises of Jawaharlal Nehru University by masked goons, solidarities for the students have been pouring from across the country and abroad. Now, students and faculty from the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata, Bangalore and Delhi have issued a press statement to express their solidarity with the JNU students who have been staging a struggle against the fee hike, unilaterally imposed by the administration, for over three months now. The statement, which has been signed by 89 faculty and 449 students of ISI, states that the JNU violence is “part of a systematic attack on Indian educational institutes”. The statement also condemns the incidents in Jamia Millia Islamia, Aligarh Muslim University and Banaras Hindu University. It reiterates on the need for an environment where “academic institutions can function without fear”.
