Elections 2019: Fifth Phase Interim Turnout Pegged at 62.56%

New Delhi: The fifth phase of the seven=phase Lok Sabha elections, which saw voting for 51 constituencies, logged an interim turnout of 62.56% till 6. PM, according to the Election Commission of India.

In this phase, voting was conducted for 14 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, 12 in Rajasthan, seven each in West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, five in Bihar, four in Jharkhand, , and two in Jammu & Kashmir.

UP recorded 57% voter turnout where Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Smriti Irani, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi are in the fray.

"The turnout till 6 pm was 57.33 % as compared to 56.92 % in 2014," Chief Electoral Officer L Venkateshwarlu told mediapersons in Lucknow.

Amid cases of intimidation, violence, bombings and EVM glitches, Bengal recorded nearly 74% polling in seven constituencies till 5 p.m

In the last Lok Sabha polls in 2014, the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress had won all these seven seats.

In Bihar, an estimated 57.86% voters turnout was recorded on five Lok Sabha constituencies of Bihar which passed off peacefully Monday, state election

office said.

Polling on these seats was 2.17% more as compared to 2014 poll, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) H R Srinivasa told reporters here.

The five Lok Sabha seats that witnessed voting in Bihar included Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Saran and Hajipur (reserved).

An estimated 64.19% of the 65.87 lakh electorate exercised their franchise till 7 pm in the four Lok Sabha constituencies during the second phase of

polling in Jharkhand on Monday.

Polling in Koderma, Ranchi, Khunti (ST) and Hazaribag parliamentary constituencies passed off peacefully, Election Commission (EC) officials said.

Of the four constituencies, Koderma recorded the maximum turnout at 65.81%
